UC Slaughterhouse took on challenger Alligators in the ABL Fall Basketball Championship on Tuesday night.  UC Slaughterhouse exhibited the dominant effort that we have seen throughout the season, but it may not have been in the manner that you’d expect.  Their offensive efficiency is through the roof, having scored triple digits three time this season.  However, Alligators was able to hold their opponent to their second lowest scoring output of the season.

            This relative success from the extra effort on the defensive side of the ball may have taken away from their offense though.  Either way, Alligators are a consistently great team in our league, and UC Slaughterhouse’s defensive performance was nothing short of impressive.  They held the opposition to just 17 points going into the half.

            The lead was only 13, but any deficit to this offense is a mountain to climb.  It was only a matter of time before they really broke out, and break out they did.  Kevin Walker led all scorers with 32 points, followed by teammate Jonathan Agurto with 18 points.  Both nailed a game high 4 three point shots.  Jason Matos tied with Alligators’ Evan Card for the game high in rebounds at 10.  Vic Verdiza of UC Slaughterhouse led the way in assists with 5 and Bill Leonard of Alligators posted the highest steal total at 3.

            UC Slaughterhouse, a great outside shooting team, made a concerted effort to attack the basket and wore down the Alligators defense, scoring 41 in the second half.  Alligators made a late run while their opponent was in cruise control, but it was too late; this one was well in hand.  UC Slaughterhouse capped off their perfect season with another championship title, beating Alligators by a score of 71-53.

            Congratulations to both team on excellent seasons and a hard fought battle for the title.  We’d like to extend an extra congratulations to ABL Fall Basketball Champions UC Slaughterhouse.  We hope to see you both competing again in the winter season.
