Rally to Defeat Hudson Crossfit, Earn Spot in Champ Game

HOBOKEN, NJ -- Here we go again.

After rallying to defeat Hudson River Crossfit in Round 1 of the playoffs, the former champion Slingers are back in the Big Dance. Known for their clutch performances when it counts most, The Slingers have several championships under their belt, but this time, they will take on a daunting opponent - the undefeated 10th & Willow team (8-0), who blanked Slapping the Base 9-0 in their opening round playoff game.

Getting here didn't come easy.

In their playoff game vs. HRC, they got off to a slow start.  Slinger Manager Jason Orr describes the scene:

"I think at one point we were down 1-7 and James (Amadeo) got pissed.  I never see him get mad.  He said something like, "this is NOT happening."  Then, he rifled this throw from short to end the top of the fifth inning and something changed.  That little spark was what we needed.  The team mindset shifted to chip, chip away. There was almost a quiet hopeful confidence.  And then it happened."

Down 9-4 in the 7th inning, the floodgates opened. The Slingers had a monster inning, scoring an astounding 13 runs and never looked back. Amadeo sparked the rally with a 2-RBI triple, and the hits kept coming.

Orr says, "We stuck to small ball.  Nobody overdid it. Everyone was waiting at the plate, swinging at the right pitches. I got up and hit this triple down the right field line.  I remember running so hard that I stupidly screamed at Miller for holding me at third, haha."

Up 11-9, things could have remained tight. But with 2 outs, Danny Miller blasted a double over the outfielders head, and the rallied continued.

"It was glorious.  One of the best things I saw all game," Orr said.

The Slingers kept smacking hits, and all of a sudden, the score was 17-9. They clamped down on defense and held on for the win.

Now they get to face the toughest team in the division - 10th & Willow - who already defeated the Slingers earlier in the season 10-5

10th & Willow have some impressive firepower, namely Brandon Marucci (.650, 8 HR's, 21 RBI's) and Tim Knapp (.643, 5 HR's, 13 Runs, 15 RBI's).

But don't expect the Slingers to be intimidated - they've been here plenty of times before.
