Misfits Hand Make it a Double First Loss in Two Seasons

BERT WILLIS FIELD -- In the Fall Season's finale, we got the matchup we expected. The two best teams all season were the Defending Champs, Make it a Double and the new look Misfits, formerly the Brickwall Boozehounds.

In their regular season matchup, the Misfits jumped out early, but Make it a Double chipped away and got the come from behind victory. So Tuesday night, when the Misfits put up 4 in the top of the first, Make it a Double knew what to do- keep cool, be patient, make the plays and the tide will turn. It always has. But this time it wouldn't.

Misfits leadoff hitter CJ (3-4, 3 doubles, 2R, RBI) earned Player of the Game honors for igniting his squad like he did all season. Stretching singles into doubles and putting pressure on the usually solid MIAD defense. On this night it would be the defense that would let MIAD down.

The Misfits capitalized on every Make it a Double miscue. 3 hits and 2 runs a piece from Deanna, Chris and JT provided the punch, and shortstop Tommy Gunz made the play of the night, in the bottom of the first, with one out and the bases loaded for MIAD's Joann Hickey hit a soft liner to left that had 2 RBI's written all over it. But back pedaling and laying completely out, Tommy was able to snag it and kill any chance for an early rally.

With the help of first baseman Mike D (3-3, R, 3RBI) Make it a Double would score 2 runs in the even innings of 2,4 and 6. But 12-6 would be as close as they would get. The Misfits tacked on insurance runs in the 8th and 9th and Raised the cup as Champions.

Congratulations to both teams on fantastic 7-1 seasons. Enjoy your winters and we will see you back on the ball field in the spring.
