New Kids on the Block Lead Standings

HOBOKEN, NJ -- The winter season of the ABL Shuffleboard League is in the early goings, but one team has emerged as a real threat to compete for the Championship.

"Shuffle Me Timbers," led by Hoboken residents Ben Berardino and Scott Duffy, has won 5 of their first 6 games. They've already defeated some formidable opponents - a 2-game sweep over the Mighty Pucks and a split vs. the Earthquates. Both are former league champions.

Jeremy VonBlohn, captain of the EarthQuates, talked about their recent puck battle vs. Shuffle Me Timbers:

"The game started out close. They had the lead 9-5 and that is when things went south. My wife Lisa scored so I went first, but my last puck went off the board. So Ben shot his last puck and it looked like it was going to go off the board but the thing suddenly stopped at the end for a 4pt hanger. That made it 13-5. Then Scott hung one to make it 17-5. And then Ben put a great block on another hanger and I could do nothing with it. They had 3 straight hangers to close out the game lol.

So yeah. They killed us."

The season is only 3 weeks old, but Shuffle Me Timbers is already making a name for themselves. They take on veteran squad 'Zero Pucks Given' (4-2) next week.
