Exciting Games Kick off the 2016 Winter Basketball Season

JERSEY CITY, January 12 - All the leaves have fallen and old man Winter is starting to settle in. For the ballers of the ABL that means one thing. Basketball season.

We opened up the doors to the gym Sunday afternoon and from the get-go the bleachers were rocking with excitement. The first game between Suicide Squad and Ultron felt like a playoff game in the final minutes as the team's fans were rocking the gym.

Suicide Squad went on to win 46-33 in their first game. The second game was between two newbies to the hoops league, Miko's Goon Squad and Cobras required two overtimes to complete. The Goon Squad would edge out the win 54-51.

Next up was two familiar foes and recent ABL champions Charliewang Express and the Wolfpack

If past seasons are any indication these two should be battling it out come playoff time, but in this first matchup it was Charliewang coming home with their first W in a 44-33 win.

Next up Nadiv & Co. had the daunting task of taking on the Anytime Bail Bonds Ballers. They were once known as D2 Forged and are the defending Winter Champions. Nadiv and the boys got a healthy serving of the champs prowess on the court as they suffered a 67-37 loss.

Finally it was Goodfellas against Duckets and Buckets. The fellas rolled out the welcome mat to the new squad with a 60-44 win. Duckets do seem to have some playmakers, but the Fellas are looking scary good in their first game.

As for the stat leaders, it is only one game, but a familiar face dons the top of the scoring list as Robert Cheeks put up 27 points for Anytime Bail Bonds Ballers. He also stands atop the 3-point list with four, and is tied with Michael McGoldrick of Miko's Goon Squad with 13 rebounds.

Billy Moylan of the Miko's leads assists with five and Danny Concepcion of Duckets and Buckets leads steals with four.

Will these guys hold the top spot all the way though? Stay tuned.
