A look at the Playoff Seeds in ABL Spring Flag Football

HOBOKEN, July 10 - The playoffs are set to kick off on July 12th at JFK stadium. Let's take a look at how some of these teams fared in the regular season, and how the seeds shook out.

1. Scrape City

Coming in at the top spot is Scrape City. Scrape proved all season that they deserve this seed. First and foremost they did not lose once and for the most part handled their opponents with ease.

Some may say it was the offense that got them to where they are, and they may be right, but the Scrape defense is truly a force with Dennis Guillen abusing signal callers with his speed and perseverance.

They will play the 8th seed, George Edward's Minions in the first round.

2. Power Pack

The pack finished the season with 6-2 record and came in second with points scored with 232.

Quarterback John Quinn proved himself as one of the most efficient passers in the league in the regular season with 23 touchdowns to just 7 interceptions. His number one wide out John Henry scored a whopping 17 times this season. The duo will have to be ready to rock in the post-season if they want to make it to the big game.

3. No Fat Chix

NFC was right behind Scrape City in point differential this season with 113 showing they could play some solid defense, as well as score some points.

Ryan Sheridan proved to be the iron-man for NFC with five interceptions, two returned for touchdowns, as well as being a top rate passer with 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions

4. EMF

EMF finished 5-3 and sits in the fourth seed. This team is a rare breed in the league. Their offense was decent, but their defense did a heap of heavy lifting this season.

Nick Camerato was quite an issue for opposing offenses with 15 sacks on the season, and while Nick was abusing the passer his defensive backs were doing a great job picking them off.

EMF finished the season with 14 interceptions as a team, and were lead by John Verpent with four, two of which went for scores.

5.Calabasas

Calabasas finished the season 5-3 and proved that taking care of the rock can go a long way in this league. Quarterback Alain Aleman tossed 18 touchdowns this season, but also only threw four interceptions. His backup Alfy Carillo added one more interception and four touchdowns. As a total the team only got picked off five times.

The Calabasas offense features two steady handed receivers in Byron Montolvo and Jay Florez with Edwin De La Cruz being the red-zone threat. Calabasas plays a smart and conservative game, and if executed right that is a hard pumpkin to crack. (Calabasas means pumpkins in Spanish)

6. Wet Bandits

The Wet Bandits are another team who finished the season in the 5-3 record bottleneck. John Watson was one of the most steady producers on the team at wide receiver with 26 receptions and eight touchdowns.

They seemed to have something of a quarterback by committee approach with Alex Belfiore pulling the lion's share of reps with 6 games played, 11 scores and 10 interceptions.

Ross Eisenberg played a fair amount as well with three games, three scores and one interception and Ayoub Aouad also played a game with one touchdown and a pick.

Total thats 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The Bandits will have to find some stability at quarterback for their playoff run to succeed against the higher seeds.

7. Humongous Melonheads

The final 5-3 team in the bottleneck was Humongous Melonheads. Known for their fiery spirits and gritty play the Melonheads fought hard to get into the playoffs.

Andrew Allesandro emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in his division last season and finished this season with 10 touchdowns and 6 interceptions with five games played.

Josh Raffel anchored the squad with solid two-way skills playing tight defense with three sacks and a pick, as well as offensively with 35 receptions and seven scores.

The Melonheads fight hard every game no matter what the circumstance, and they are eager to make a run for some ABL hardware.

8. George Edward's Minions

The eighth and final seed is George Edward's Minions who finished the regular season 4-4. GEM had a -31 point differential so they did get outscored, but they played well enough to make into the playoffs.

With a revolving door at quarterback no one is quite sure which signal caller will be handling the rock in the post-season. Tom Borghard had 14 scores and 3 interceptions and Tom Bonard had 9 scores and threw no picks.

Whichever Tom is tossing it, Anthony Latino will be there to catch it. Latino had seven scores and 32 receptions, and Sam Kramer lead the GEM defense with 7 sacks.

It's tough being the last seed, but stranger things have happened.
