Squeaking Away with the W

Another tough loss for Shmoney Squad is Wet Bandit's gain as they fight to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Wet Bandits took on Shmoney Squad this past Sunday as both teams try to scrap their way into the playoffs.  Shmoney Squad needed their first win to keep their slim hopes alive, and Wet Bandits was looking to build a win streak and work their way back to .500.  Shmoney Squad is another team that the record does not tell the whole story.  Three of their four losses have come by 7 points or less.  They always play teams tough, but just can’t seem to get over the hump.  Wet Bandits have also played well, only losing to the top 2 teams and a team tied for 3rd in the league.  This made for an interesting and important matchup.

The game would prove to be a defensive battle.  Both offenses struggled to move the ball, but they did have their moments.  Wet bandits would strike first, but Shmoney Squad answered back before the first half ended.  Both defenses held the opposing offense to just 6 points and forced one turnover each.  The game would need to be decided in the second half.  Defense again proved to be the key.  Shmoney Squad would threaten deep within enemy territory.  Wet bandits, however, met the challenge with a goal line stand.  They would feed off of this momentum and later march down the field for what would prove to be the winning score.  The defense did their job and held strong to shut out Shmoney Squad in the second half.  Despite losing the turnover battle, Wet Bandits squeaked away with the 13-6 victory and was able to improve to .500 on the season.

It was another tough loss for Shmoney Squad, who have now lost 4 of their 5 games by 7 points or less.  To their credit though, they have not thrown in the towel and continue to battle whichever team they are matched up against.  With just 3 games remaining, they are now officially eliminated from playoff contention.  I don’t see this team rolling over though.  I think they will continue to fight with pride and play spoiler down the stretch.  Now, with back to back wins, Wet Bandits is right in the mix for a playoff spot.   They will try to extend the streak against another low ranked but improving team next week.  This could lead up to what looks like will be a big matchup with No Fat Chix in the season finale.  Congratulations to both teams for battling hard and good luck as the regular season comes to an end.
