Scrape City takes down another top contender to remain undefeated and move one step closer to clinching first place.

Sunday featured the much anticipated matchup between two of the top teams in our league this year, Scrape City and No Fat Chix.  The battle was 1 vs. 2 (tied), and these are two of the more dominant teams we have seen this season.  Both teams had a down week last week, but Scrape City still pulled out a decisive victory to remain undefeated.  No Fat Chix lost their undefeated status and fell into a second place tie with the team that beat them, EMF.  Scrape City wanted to maintain their top rank and create a cushion between themselves and the field.  No Fat Chix, on the other hand, was looking to rebound with a statement win and prove that they are here to stay.

Both teams, who combined for 11 turnovers the previous week, cleaned up their games significantly, cutting that number to just 3 (including a late chance taken toward the end of the 1st half).  Neither team was looking to hand the game over as they fought for at least a share of first place.  While they didn’t force many mistakes, it was Scrape City’s stifling defense that would prove to be the difference.  No Fat Chix just was not able to get in rhythm and get anything going on the offensive side of the ball.  The game felt to be in Scrape City’s control from start to finish.  However, No Fat Chix defense did keep them in the game and within striking distance.  No Fat Chix would make a late push and pull within one score, but Scrape City was able to ice the game and come out with the big victory.

Scrape City backed up their big talk with yet another big win.  It may not have been the blowout in which they are accustomed to winning, but it was another statement win nonetheless.  Scrape City controlled the game and mostly imposed their will over another top ranked team.  No Fat Chix now falls into a third place tie with the loss, despite their second ranked +126 point differential.  Scrape City, with their league leading +161 point differential, has taken a stranglehold of first place.  Their two game lead with two left to play will be nearly insurmountable, leaving the rest of the league to battle for second.  No Fat Chix will look to stop the skid against another tough opponent in Bonnet Shore Legends next week, while Scrape City tries to stay undefeated and keep the momentum going against a tough opponent of their own in George Edward’s Minions.  Good luck to both teams the rest of the way and congratulations on a hard fought battle.
