Goodfellas Have an Impressive Week

JERSEY CITY, June 10 - The Goodfellas rise to prominence over the last few years has been steady and quite impressive. The past weeks round of games put the grit of the Goodfellas on display with the volume turned up to 11 with a dramatic buzzer beater win on Sunday and an ABL record breaking scoring onslaught on Tuesday.

On Sunday Goodfellas faced off against a dangerous Below the Rim squad that features the leagues most dangerous scorer Mike Popper who stands high atop the ABL scoring leader list.

It seemed Goodfellas would fall victim to Mike Popper and the BTR as Popper was scoring at will in the first half, but in the second half Goodfellas managed to keep the dangerous shooter in check and slowly started to chip away at 13 point lead that BTR had secured at the end of the first half.

It came down to the wire as the fellas and BTR were tied at 49, but as the clock trickled down Corey Edwards came up clutch for Goodfellas and sunk a three pointer as the buzzer rang out to steal a last minute victory and protect their un-defeated season.

Their Tuesday challenge was the newly formed team Chanticleers who have been struggling to find their rhythm thus far in this Spring Season with a 1-4 record.

Despite a first half that featured some really nice plays by Chanticleers; Goodfellas decided in the second half that they wanted to put this game to bed.

Their weapon of choice was the three-point shot. In total the fellas sunk 14 three-pointers in the contest on their way to a record breaking 85 point game.

Ahsan Jamil and Tymel Jackson led the Goodfellas with five treys on the night each, but it was Rick Mathis who was the leading scorer with his gritty play in the paint. Mathis had only one three-pointer, but his ability to rebound and sink close range shots were the stepping stones he used to climb to a 29 point game.

A great week for the Goodfellas as they improve to 5-0 on the season. With only a few weeks left in the season they may just be on their way to their first un-defeated season.
