Roosevelts hold on to beat Farkle in ABL West Co-Ed Championship

HOBOKEN, September 16 - Yesterday, September 15, 2014. A date which will live on in infamy - Farkle was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the empire of Roosevelts

Well maybe it wasn't sudden, but it was certainly deliberate. Make no mistake. This game was an all out war. The Roosevelts started off the skirmish with a four run first inning. Corey O'Neil demolished a ball to deep left center for a 3 RBI home run to start off the battle. O'Neil was just warming up as he would do a whole lot more damage later.

Farkle managed to tie the game right back up in the bottom of the 2nd after a two run first inning. Mark Young showed off some power as well, as he cranked a ball to deep right field. The ball's travel distance was cut short as it made contact with a power line and then fizzled down onto a parked car. The car was fine...I think.

Both teams slugged away and went back and forth scoring runs for a while. In the top of the 5th inning Roosevelts stepped up big though. They plated six runs in the inning to make the score 14 - 7. Roosevelts showed patience in the 5th frame as their batters managed three walks in the inning.

Farkle's drive to win was un-wavering though. Despite not putting any runs on the board in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. In the 8th inning they were poised to strike, and they began their comeback blitzkrieg.

It seemed that fateful 8th was going to be just another wash out inning for Farkle, but Vivian Gilmett managed a two out single with Dan Lyons on base. It seemed harmless enough. Lyons moved to 3rd base, and Vivian stood on first, but the first inning hero Mark Young stepped back to the plate with all intentions of sparking a magnificent rally, and spark he did.

Young once again went yard with another tape measure shot driving in three runs. It was just the spark that these Farkles needed. The lineup rolled over to the top and base runners starting coming around to score over and over again. When it was all said and done Farkle had put up a huge nine run inning to put themselves right back in the game with a score of 18-16 in favor of Roosevelts.

The Roosevelts tacked on an insurance run in the top of the 9th with a solo shot from Corey O'Neil and got ready to play some defense in the bottom of the 9th.

Down by three Farkle came back up in the final inning. The inning where legends are made. Unfortunately for Farkle though this tale would end with the Roosevelts going home as the champions of the ABL West, as they were unable to mount any offense in the final inning of the game.

This was an extremely hard fought game, and a joy to witness. The will to win by Farkle was evident, and they never stopped fighting, but the Roosevelts potent lineup had just a bit more firepower in this battle. Congratulations are in order for both teams, as they left it all out on the field.
