All-Star Game Sluggers combine for 62 Total Runs

LEONIA, August 24 - The best of the best from teams all around the ABL's Men's Softball League came to Leonia's Sylvan Park Sunday afternoon, and put on quite a hitting display.

The American League All-Stars skippered by John Spasevski of the ABL East champion Aces, and John Cangelosi of Adrenaline Rush came to the plate first.

The AL All-Stars did not manage to put up any runs in the first inning, but their opponent the National League All-Stars headed up by FS Hitmen's Raul Arias went utterly ballistic to start the game as they poured 12 runs on the board in the opening frame.

This is an all-star game though. All was not lost for the AL. They had plenty of fire power on their team and it was only a matter of time before they started plating runs, and they did just that. In the 3rd inning the AL team started to gel.

Pedro Ruiz of Adrenaline Rush blasted a three run homer, and teamate Mike Loch from Four Ports blasted another two run shot later in the inning. The AL  team added another five runs in the 4th inning putting the score at 11-16 in favor of the NL squad.

In the bottom of the 4th the NL stars squashed the rising rebellion with a big eight run inning as they scattered base hits all over the field.

Despite a slight resurgence in the top of the 6th where the AL stars put up eight runs the NL kept control of this game throughout, and would pull a 39-23 victory.

Both teams slugged liked crazy as they abused the short porch in right field, and the game in itself was an exhibition of power hitting at its finest.

SOLID PERFORMERS

American All-Stars

John Cangelosi (Adrenaline Rush) went 5 for 6 with 3RBI and came around to score 4 times in the game from the 5 spot in the lineup.

Jonah Murhpy (Aces) broke the ice for his team scoring the first run for them with a monster HR in the 2nd inning. Jonah finished 2 for 5 with a single and a HR, with 2RBI, BB and 2R in the contest.

Pedro Ruiz (Adrenaline Rush) put up solid numbers from the three spot in the lineup going 3 for 6 with a HR, a single , a double , 4RBI and 4R.

National All-Stars

Brian Lutz (Muy Buenos) was the perfect lead-off hitter for his team. Lutz went 7 for 7 with 6 singles, a HR, 3RBI and 6 Runs. Lutz also pulled down a nice grab in deep center field.

Jude Bracken (McSwiggan's Pub) was also well placed in the lineup as the three hitter went 5 for 6 with 3 singles, 2 doubles, 8RBI and 2 runs scored.

Jarred Koeppel (Litzky PR) took full advantage of the short porch in right. JK went 3 for 6 with a double, 2 HR, 6RBI and 3R.

James Facey (Hungover Hitmen) is also no stranger to launching the ball over the short right field marker at Leonia. Normally a lead-off man for the Hitmen, Facey batted deep in the lineup behind Jarred Koeppel, and the two were a back-to-back nightmare in the lineup. Facey went 4 for 6 with a single, 3HR, 6RBI and 3R.

Juan Francisco Moran (Muy Buenos) was the winning pitcher in the contest.

That's all for softball this season folks, but fall leagues are gearing up. Special thanks to our All-Stars for putting on a great show, and to team Captains John Cangelosi, John Spasevski and Raul Arias.
