Roosevelts overcome 1st inning crisis

SUNDAY, JULY 27—The game looked grim for the Roosevelts after the top of the 1st inning, in which the team let up 9 runs.  A lesser team would have raised the white flags on their bats, but not these Rough Riders.  Steve Gebhardt & Lauren Bosco led the charge knocking in a combined 5 runs to cut into their opponent’s lead.  Each inning was a battle between the two teams, but the Roosevelts would win the war as they came out on top by defeating the Ragers 16 to 12.

After a very long and lengthy 1st inning, the Roosevelts countered by tying the game up at 9 runs apiece.  Jean Marie Romanella displayed outstanding plate discipline not chasing any balls outside the strike zone as she scored 3 runs on 3 walks.  Jean Marie did a great job getting on base and helping raise teammate Anthony Halwagi’s RBI total.  Anthony had a clutch RBI single in the 4th inning and finished the game going 2 for 3 and 3 RBIs.

The game was neck and neck,  tied 12 to 12, until John Tramatolo stepped up to the plate.  John hit a solo shot over the left field fence to give his team a 13 to 12 lead.  As he was rounding the bases he could see Teddy looking down at him smiling.

“Believe you can and you're halfway there.”
