Joey Anevski hits game winner in extras

SUNDAY, April 13, 2014—it was opening day for the Men’s Softball League at Latteri Park, in Clifton, NJ.  Besides the perfect weather for softball, there was some spice added to today’s opening day ceremonies.  The 2013 Men’s Fall League champ Chupacabras decided to disband their team and create two squads: Aces and Adrenaline Rush.  ABL couldn’t have scripted a better opening day match up having bragging rights on the line between teams.

Aces swept the double header winning their first game 8 to 7, and their second game 13 to 7.  Both teams displayed a tremendous skill set in today’s match ups.  However, game 1 stole the show with late game drama going into extra innings.

In the 5th inning, Adrenaline was looking to extend their 7 to 3 lead when Brent Tomasino hit a shot to left field.  Brent tried extending his hit to a double, but Aces’ left fielder Joey Anevski made a perfect throw to 2nd base to get him out.  Joe’s play helped spark his teammates defense, as 2nd baseman Bobby Glazer made a great grab to end and limit the damage done in the inning.

Aces great play carried over to the offensive side when they tied the game up in the 6th inning 7 to 7.  The game was headed into extras when Adrenaline Rush got out of bases loaded, 1 out jam.

It was the bottom of the 8th inning with men on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs.  Most players fold under pressure, but not Aces Joey Anevski.  He makes the best out of any hand dealt.  The crowd was on the feet when the pitch was thrown.  The crack of the bat signaled the softball season is here.  Joey won the pot with his RBI single to give his team an 8 to 7 victory.

The cards have been dealt, are you ready to play or have the Aces call your bluff?
