D2 takes down undefeated Tigers, 62 to 44

SUNDAY, April 6, 2014—the 2014 Winter basketball season is winding down, but the intensity on the court is going up.  Heading into Sunday’s competition, 1st place and undefeated Tigers were looking to continue their perfect season in the LeBron James Division.  D2 had other plans in mind, with their season on the line; they played like it was the championship game.

D2 stepped up the team’s defensive play on Sunday keeping their opponent to 44 total points.  This was the Tigers’ lowest point total all season long.  D2 switched up their defensive looks through out the course of the game.  If they weren’t frustrating the Tigers’ point guards using a full court press, D2 was in a zone doing an excellent job communicating and helping out one another.  D2 finished the game with 13 steals.  However, Tiger Orestes Medina was able to break through D2’s impenetrable zone defense and did a Michael Jordan like move switching hands underneath the basket for the lay up.

The unselfish offensive gameplay by D2 took center stage on Sunday.  On several trips down the court, the team did a fantastic job one touch passing the ball to each other.  They got everyone on the team involved and sometimes connected 9 to 12 one touch passes per drive.  This helped set up the open man, especially D2 Rob Bates who took full advantage.  He finished with a season high 15 points (3 three pointers).  Mix the team’s selfless play with point guard Dewit Maxvell’s shake and bake moves and that is a recipe for success.

D2 isn’t out of the woods just yet.  They are currently on a 4 game winning streak and are neck and neck with the 5 - 4 HFC for 4th place in the division.  D2’s final game is against the 6 - 2 Snipers.  The Snipers’ pin point accuracy is known to put teams on the endangered list.
